Heyknowes, Belgium

Now called the Hainaut Provence of Belgium, the historically named Heynowes region is home to some of the world’s best – and longest operating – breweries in the world. Today, you can still find monks brewing world-class beer in these regions.

Beyond great beer, Belgium is known for chocolate and waffles. It is also a government center: The home of the NATO world headquarters, and it is often called the capital of the European Union. Belgium is a true multi-cultural center; there are three official languages.

The Style

Belgian Style Tripel Ale

The Chant Master is a Belgian Style Tripel Ale that has a relatively high alcohol content - 8.5% ABV. Unlike some higher alcohol content beers, The Chant Master is very accessible and balanced.

Historically, the term Tripel was used to differentiate different styles of Belgian beer. Casks were marked with crosses signifying the original gravity or final alcohol content - one cross roughly equated to 3% ABV, two crosses 6%, and three crosses - the Tripel - for 9%.

Today, Belgian Tripels represent a pale, somewhat spicy ale. These beers typically have a clean malt character balanced by a firm bitterness and fruity, light alcoholic notes driven by the yeast strain. These beers are typically in the 8-9% ABV range, and despite the high alcohol content are surprisingly drinkable and accessible.
