Our Inspiration
Newport Beach, CA
Newport Beach is a collection of unique villages. The area is great for cycling, with temperate southern California weather, beautiful views of the ocean, and a mixture of challenging hills and straight flats. From Balboa beach to Newport Harbor and everything in between, Newport Beach has something to offer for everyone.
The Newport Beach pier and Balboa pier accentuate the over ten-mile stretch of white sands and coastline that make up Newport Beach. It is the largest recreational harbor on the west coast and is a destination for surfers, swimmers, sunbathers, and sunseekers. Newport Beach inspired our Dockside Peach Radler. No matter where you are, grab a Dockside Radler and be transported to the land of sun and surf.
The Style
Peach Radler
The Radler is traditionally two-parts beer mixed with one-part lemonade. A great drink for the summer, these were initially popularized by cyclists as a refreshing drink to cool down after a long ride. Similar to a shandy, the styles have unique histories.
The original shandy dates to England and the early 1850s when beer was mixed with ginger ale. About 70 years later, the Radler was created in Bavaria when a pub was overrun with a large group of thirsty cyclists. To conserve the rapidly depleting beer supply, the bartender started mixing the beer with lemonade. It was an immediate hit with the cyclists.
Today, both Radlers and Shandys are popular seasonal drinks. Brewers today have moved beyond the original lemonade and ginger ale and have begun experimenting with various fruits and flavors. Our peach Radler is a mixture of peach juice and a light lager. The peach flavors are subtle, and provide a clean, well-balanced and easily drinkable summertime Radler.
